New DOC Northwest Regional Training Facility Receives LEED Certification

October 12, 2005

The new Ambia-designed Captain Jimmie Evans Performance Center at Monroe Correctional Complex has been LEED certified Gold by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). The building is one of the first designed for Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) under a recent Executive Order to become a sustainable agency, and the first DOC building to earn this LEED certification.

Serving as a regional training facility for the DOC’s Northwest region staff and custody officers, the 10,000 SF building contains classrooms, offices, a defensive tactics training area, and support facilities. The facility is fully connected to technology and the campus communications network, and each individual classroom is wired to provide distance learning.

Ambia has been committed to sustainable design since the 1970s—well before the current LEED certification program was developed. By employing sustainable design concepts, Ambia demonstrates environmental responsibility through creating more eco-friendly facilities, without sacrificing the aesthetics of good architectural design.

The new regional training facility is the first of four Ambia projects currently registered with USGBC to receive Gold LEED certification.
